Group of children in a field

26 August 2022

Another summer has ended, children are back at school and YMCA Summer Daycamps are finished for 2022! Spread across two of our sites, Barley Wood in Wrington and Yew Trees in Tarnock, our amazing teams have taken our Daycampers on a journey through five themed weeks of summer fun.

This summer, Daycamps themes were:

  • Around the World
  • Outdoor Explorer
  • Mission Impossible
  • Fantastic Beasts
  • By the Sea

Our activity programme was bursting at the seams and with an age range between four and eleven years, there really was something for everyone. Each child had the chance to learn skills, try something new and take part in different challenges.

The children had a wonderful time with many making new friends and stepping out of their comfort zone. One parent explained that their child was having so much fun “they wanted to stay forever!”

Each child got to enjoy all of our big activities, such as: climbing, canoeing, archery and segways as well as enjoying themed fun specific to each week. Some of these activities included: boomerang making, pond dipping, spy trails, an animal encounter experience, campfires and a treasure hunt in our final week. One parent expressed how much their child loved the activities and said that the weeks were: “just so well organised and the sessions were really well designed.”

Alli Waller, Youth and Community Programmes Manager said: “YMCA Summer Daycamps have been a lot of fun this year! We’ve seen so many new children and plenty of returning faces which has been great. One of my favourite parts of YMCA Daycamps is seeing children taking part in things they haven’t tried before and this summer we’ve definitely seen a lot of that! I absolutely love being part of the team that delivers Daycamps, and look forward to seeing lots of excited faces back with us very soon.”
