The Old Potting Shed Nursery in Blagdon has celebrated its first anniversary since joining YMCA Dulverton Group. The Nursery, based at Coombe Lodge in Blagdon, joined the existing cohort of YMCA Early Years settings, including Barley Wood Nursery in Wrington and Yew Trees Nursery in Tarnock, in late 2021.

The beautiful setting in Blagdon comprises two buildings, The Stables currently offering 24 places for babies and the Old Potting Shed offering 45 places for toddlers and preschoolers. During its first year as a YMCA setting, the nursery has expanded, creating a new baby room to support more local families and has welcomed more than 100 children through its doors.

One parent has said of the setting: “The Old Potting Shed Nursery is in the most stunning location and feels like a hidden gem. My little one loves outdoors play and I know they utilise the outdoor space and grounds whenever possible. I know he is always well looked after and has the loveliest days exploring and learning.”

Lisa Marchent, Manager of the Old Potting Shed Nursery said: “I can’t begin to explain how I proud I am of our nursery and team. We started as a small team and have grown so much in just one year! Our team are highly skilled and completely committed to each one of our children and families, making us a fantastic setting for families in the local community.”

The nursery is one of six YMCA Dulverton Group nurseries and preschools across Somerset and Mid-Devon with a team of over 90 early years professionals, all benefitting from discounted childcare, healthcare and training and education opportunities as part of their employment.

Natalie Purkiss, YMCA Dulverton Group Head of Childcare said: “I am so proud of what our team have achieved in their first year! This year has been fantastic, we’ve welcomed so many lovely families through our doors and been joined by lots of incredible new members of the team.

“In our first year, The Old Potting Shed has created 14 jobs in the local area as well as supporting 3 apprentices through their studies and we’re always interested in hearing from new and experienced early years professionals looking for employment opportunities.

“From celebrating key events throughout 2022, to making the most of our wonderful outdoor spaces no matter the weather, it’s been a busy year. Our team have done an incredible job to make the nursery and preschool a warm, welcoming and nurturing space for our children and families and we are so excited to continue on this fantastic journey.”
