On Friday 19th October, Damien Erangey, Alli Waller and Michelle Richards from our WsM Youth Team took part in Worle School’s mock interview day.

They were tasked with taking on the role of an employer looking for staff for their mock business. Each interview lasted approximately 15 minutes. Candidates (students) would arrive with their CV and be interviewed for the position on offer.

Damien Erangey, Youth and Community Hub Manager, was really impressed with the quality of interviews considering it was the students first time they had been in an interview, which is nerve racking for students and seasoned professionals.  The team were please to represent the organisation working within the community and with the local school.

When asked to reflect on the day, Alli Waller, Lead Youth Worker said, “It was a great experience for me as well; being the interviewer is not something you get to practice to often. I am pleased that I was able to benefit the students by helping them practice a life skill which in turn was a serious boost for them.”

Their highlight was of course a day off work but helping to coach the most nervous students through the process of interview and seeing how excited they were when they realised what they’d achieved. They found the day extremely rewarding and would be more than happy to return for a third year!!

Last year the mock interview event was so successful that we recruited a work experience student at Barley Wood! Take a look at Kate’s Story here: https://www.ymca-sc.org/year-10-student-lands-dream-job-experience/
