Over 40 people participated in the rough night sleep event in Bridgwater, including the town’s mayor, Diogo Rodrigues, members of the public and local agencies.

Collectively, the final amount raised from the event has reached over £4000!

This includes money raised by the 1st Hunstspill and Highbridge Cubs who hosted their own Sleep Easy event and raised a huge £439 for YMCA Dulverton Group.

Participants were first challenged to come together and build shelters from cardboard and tarpaulin, to prepare themselves for the long night ahead.

Young people who are supported by YMCA Dulverton Group shared their personal stories of homelessness and how the YMCA has supported them along their journey back to independence.

Before settling down for the night, the group had some acoustic music from the staff and residents, all with the aim of bringing people together to raise awareness of local homelessness and the work of the YMCA.

Huw Hides, Accommodation and Support Enabler, said “Sleep Easy 2019 was a fantastic buy humbling experience. We saw staff, residents, external agencies and members of the public all join together to raised invaluable awareness of local homelessness and funds towards towards the work of the YMCA. We hope that everyone who took part gained an increased understanding of the complex issues of homelessness and a greater empathy for vulnerable people in our society who have nowhere to call ‘home’”.

Thank you so much to all who participated, donated and supported the event! We shall see you next year for Sleep Easy 2020!
